Terms and Conditions and Rules of Operation
These Rules set out how enrolment, tuition, organisation and day-to-day operation work at the Multidisciplinary Tutoring Centre of Oficina de Pitágoras during the 2026/2027 school year.
Multidisciplinary Tutoring Centre — 2026/2027 school year
Last updated: September 2026
These are the rules of the Multidisciplinary Tutoring Centre. The other services of Oficina de Pitágoras — workshops, training, events and other activities — may have conditions of their own.
This is a translation provided for convenience. The Portuguese version is the one that is accepted at enrolment and the one that applies.
I. General provisions
1. Purpose and scope
These Terms and Conditions and Rules of Operation set out how enrolment, tuition, organisation and day-to-day operation work at the Multidisciplinary Tutoring Centre of Oficina de Pitágoras during the 2026/2027 school year.
They apply, with any necessary adaptation, to:
• one-to-one tutoring;
• group tutoring;
• supervised study;
• school support;
• preparation for class tests;
• preparation for assessments and examinations;
• intensive preparation courses;
• extra lessons;
• one-off lessons;
• tuition in person;
• tuition online;
• other educational support services of the Multidisciplinary Tutoring Centre.
Where a particular service has specific features, these may be communicated separately.

3. School year and operating period
For the 2026/2027 school year, activities are expected to begin from 14 September 2026, without prejudice to intensive preparation courses or other provision that may have dates of their own.
Operating periods, breaks, public holidays and other relevant details will appear in the calendar or be communicated through the usual channels of Oficina de Pitágoras.
II. Enrolment, places and organisation of services
4. Request to enrol
Submitting the form constitutes a request to enrol.
Completing the form does not, in itself, confirm a place.
The request will be considered in the light of:
• the service requested;
• the subject;
• the school year;
• the arrangement;
• availability of times;
• places available;
• the make-up of the groups;
• the availability of staff;
• the capacity of the premises.
5. Validation of the enrolment
An enrolment is considered validated once:
1. the request has been considered;
2. the existence of a place has been confirmed;
3. any applicable enrolment amount has been paid;
4. the other conditions communicated have been met.
Submitting the form does not automatically guarantee:
• a particular time;
• a particular teacher;
• a particular group;
• a particular arrangement;
• a particular room;
• a place in a particular class.
6. Enrolment amount
There may be an enrolment or re-enrolment amount, in accordance with the conditions in force at the time of the request.
The amount will be communicated in advance.
7. Places
Places are limited.
Availability depends on:
• the level of education;
• the subject;
• the type of service;
• the timetable;
• the capacity of the group;
• the availability of the teacher;
• the capacity of the space.
Oficina de Pitágoras may close enrolments whenever the capacity of a service is full.
8. Allocation of times, teachers and organisation of services
Times, teachers, groups and the rest of the organisation are decided by the management of Oficina de Pitágoras, on educational, organisational and availability grounds.
Enrolling in a service does not confer the right to choose:
• a particular teacher;
• a particular time;
• a particular group;
• a particular room;
• a particular combination of staff;
• the internal organisation of the tuition.
The student or guardian may request a change.
The request will be considered in the light of:
• the availability of teachers;
• existing timetables;
• the capacity of groups;
• educational compatibility;
• how the other classes run;
• the spaces available;
• the effect of the change on other students;
• the overall structure of the services.
Making a request does not amount to an automatic change.
Any adjustment depends on that assessment and on what is possible, and reorganisation may take some time.
Wherever possible, Oficina de Pitágoras will seek a suitable solution.
The final decision on the organisation of times, teachers and groups rests with the management of Oficina de Pitágoras.
III. Composition and size of groups
9. General composition of groups
Groups are formed on educational and organisational grounds, namely:
• school year;
• subject;
• syllabus;
• level of knowledge;
• objectives;
• compatibility of timetables;
• number of students;
• school attended;
• class of origin;
• the nature of the service.
10. Groups in the 1st Cycle
In regular 1st Cycle groups, the maximum will as a rule be:
• 4 students, where there is a wider mix of schools or classes;
• up to 5 students, where at least 50% of the group are from the same school and the same class.
In the 1st Cycle, different school years may be combined, given the cross-curricular nature of the support.
11. Groups in the 2nd and 3rd Cycles
In regular 2nd and 3rd Cycle groups, the maximum will be:
• 5 students, where they are from different schools or classes;
• up to 6 students, where at least 50% of the group are from the same school and the same class.
Regular 2nd and 3rd Cycle groups do not mix school years.
So:
• Year 5 students attend Year 5 groups;
• Year 6 students attend Year 6 groups;
• Year 7 students attend Year 7 groups;
• Year 8 students attend Year 8 groups;
• Year 9 students attend Year 9 groups.
12. Groups in Secondary Education
In regular Secondary groups, the maximum will be 6 students.
Composition will take into account:
• the subject;
• the year;
• the syllabus;
• the course;
• the content;
• the pace;
• educational compatibility.
Specific arrangements may be authorised by the teacher responsible where the syllabuses and the students' needs are educationally compatible.
13. Separation by subject
Lessons are organised according to the subject set out in the student's plan.
Time reserved for a given subject is for tuition in that subject.
There is no arrangement whereby, from one lesson to the next, the guardian or student freely chooses which subject to work on.
A permanent change must be made formally, by changing the tuition plan.
14. Independent study of another subject
Occasionally, the teacher may allow a student to study another subject independently during a session, provided this does not interfere with the running of the lesson.
In that case:
• the student must have their own materials;
• the work is independent;
• the session does not become tuition in that subject;
• no support, marking or explanation of that material is guaranteed.
The teacher may give some occasional guidance if they consider it possible without affecting the rest of the group.
15. Supervised study in the 1st Cycle
Supervised study in the 1st Cycle may involve different curriculum areas within the same session.
The following may be covered:
• Portuguese;
• Mathematics;
• Estudo do Meio;
• English;
• homework;
• preparation for assessments;
• other suitable tasks.
This flexibility does not automatically extend to the subject groups at other levels.
16. Exceptional placement in another group
In exceptional, unforeseen and extraordinary situations — sudden unavailability, an accident, an unexpected delay to a teacher or another event that could not be anticipated — the temporary placement of a student in another group already running may be considered.
This will only be used where:
• the session originally planned cannot be provided immediately;
• there is no more suitable solution at that moment;
• the placement does not disrupt the lesson in progress;
• the students in that group are not disadvantaged;
• the student being placed is not disadvantaged.
Wherever possible, rescheduling will be preferred.
This is not a permanent change of group or time.
17. Examination preparation groups
Specific examination preparation groups are structured differently from regular groups.
They may have up to 16 students.
The arrangement may include:
• students from different classes;
• students from different schools;
• working through past papers;
• work directed at shared content;
• intensive sessions;
• more than one teacher or assistant;
• other methods suited to the preparation period.
IV. Timetables and length of lessons
18. Timetables
Timetables are organised taking into account:
• students' availability;
• school timetables;
• teachers' availability;
• the capacity of groups;
• the spaces available;
• the overall organisation of the centre.
The availability given by the guardian is taken into account when timetables are drawn up, but it is not a guarantee of a particular time.
19. Length of lessons
Unless specifically stated otherwise, regular lessons last a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Where a service of 1 hour is provided, exactly the same principle applies.
The time given is the total period of the session.
It includes:
• entering the room;
• getting materials ready;
• the work itself;
• bringing the session to a close;
• tidying up;
• collecting materials;
• leaving;
• preparing and cleaning the space immediately for the next lesson.
So:
• in a lesson from 16:00 to 17:30, the student enters at 16:00 and should already be out of the room at 17:30;
• in a lesson from 16:00 to 17:00, the student enters at 16:00 and should already be out of the room at 17:00.
No additional time is added for tidying up or leaving.
20. Provisional timetables and changes
At the start of the school year, timetables may be provisional.
Adjustments may occur over the first few weeks and, where necessary, during the year.
Whenever a change made by Oficina de Pitágoras causes significant difficulty, a solution compatible with the resources available will be sought.
21. Punctuality
Students should keep to the times set.
A student arriving late does not extend the session.
V. Changes, suspension and continuity
22. Changing the tuition plan
Changes may be requested regarding:
• subjects;
• frequency;
• length;
• the arrangement;
• the number of services;
• suspending subjects;
• adding new services.
Changes do not take effect during the current month.
To take effect the following month, they must be notified at least 15 days before the first day of that month.
If the request is made outside that period, the plan and its amount remain in place for the following month.
Not attending lessons does not amount to a change or a cancellation.
23. Temporary suspension holding the place
Where a student wishes to interrupt tuition temporarily while keeping their place, time or group, a suspension with a reserved place may be considered.
An amount may be charged to hold the place.
For 2026/2027 this may be 30% of the monthly amount for the service, where applicable.
As a rule this is limited to one consecutive month, unless specifically agreed otherwise.
24. Suspending a subject or part of the plan
A suspension must be notified expressly.
To take effect the following month, it must be notified at least 15 days before the first day of that month.
If notice is given later, the plan and its full amount remain in place for the following month.
25. Withdrawal, in part or in full
Withdrawal must be notified in writing, by a means that records the communication.
It does not take effect during the current month.
To take effect the following month, it must be notified at least 15 days before the first day of that month.
Without notice within that period, the plan and its amount remain in place for the following month.
Not attending lessons does not amount to withdrawal.
26. Interruption without holding the place
If a student stops attending without prior agreement, the place or time may no longer be held.
Any return will be subject to availability and to the conditions then in force.
27. Commitment to continuity
Regular attendance presupposes a commitment to continuity.
Oficina de Pitágoras organises in advance:
• teachers;
• timetables;
• classes;
• spaces;
• resources;
• educational support.
The student and guardian should play their part through:
• attendance;
• punctuality;
• timely communication;
• respect for the rules;
• meeting the amounts and dates set.
The relationship rests on responsibility, communication, trust, respect and mutual commitment.
VI. Online services and communication
28. In person and online
Services may be delivered in person, online, or through a combination of both.
29. Online services
For online services, the student must have:
• an internet connection;
• suitable equipment;
• a camera and microphone, where needed;
• the software or applications required.
Technical problems with the student's equipment or connection are not, as a rule, the responsibility of Oficina de Pitágoras.
Where the difficulty is caused by the centre's own means, a suitable solution will be considered.
30. Digital platforms
Platforms such as Microsoft Teams, or other tools, may be used for:
• lessons;
• sharing materials;
• communication;
• exercises;
• tuition and follow-up.
31. WhatsApp
There may be WhatsApp groups or channels associated with the services.
The official WhatsApp number is exclusively +351 926 125 158.
Individual matters should preferably be dealt with by private message.
32. Use of the communication groups
They should not be used for:
• unauthorised advertising;
• private services;
• offensive content;
• messages unrelated to the service;
• inappropriate disclosure of personal data;
• unauthorised sharing of third parties' information.
33. The guardian area
Oficina de Pitágoras provides a guardian area.
It may include:
• the state of payments;
• confirmation of payments;
• amounts;
• the student's plan;
• the current timetable;
• attendance;
• extra lessons;
• adjustments;
• notices;
• notifications;
• administrative information.
This area is one of the official channels of information.
Guardians should consult it regularly.
VII. Teachers and cover
34. Teachers and staff
Teachers are assigned by Oficina de Pitágoras according to:
• the subject;
• the level;
• experience;
• availability;
• the service;
• educational suitability.
Enrolment is with Oficina de Pitágoras and not directly with a particular teacher.
35. Change or cover of teacher
A teacher may be changed or covered for educational, organisational or availability reasons.
A change of teacher does not, in itself, amount to cancellation of the service.
36. Make-up lessons at another time or in another group
Whenever a lesson has to be made up, the make-up lesson may take place at a time other than the student's regular one.
The student may be placed for that occasion in another working group.
In such cases, Oficina de Pitágoras will seek to ensure that:
• the group is educationally suitable;
• the capacity limits for the service are respected;
• the composition is compatible with the criteria set out in these Rules;
• the regular students of that group are not disadvantaged;
• the student attending the make-up lesson has suitable conditions.
The placement is for that occasion only and is not a permanent change of time or group.
37. Academic results
Oficina de Pitágoras provides educational support and tuition.
It cannot guarantee:
• a particular grade;
• passing;
• a particular result in an examination;
• admission to a particular course or institution.
Results also depend on the student — on their attendance, work, independent study and participation.
VIII. School materials and sustainability
38. Teaching materials provided by the centre
The following may be provided:
• worksheets;
• exercises;
• summaries;
• digital content;
• past examinations;
• other teaching materials.
These are for the student's own use and should not be sold or improperly distributed.
39. The student's own materials
Students must bring the materials needed for their lessons.
These may include:
• an exercise book;
• a folder;
• paper;
• pencils;
• pens;
• an eraser;
• a ruler;
• geometry equipment;
• a calculator;
• the textbook;
• the exercise book used at school;
• tests;
• worksheets;
• other relevant documents.
Wherever possible, students are encouraged to bring the exercise book used at school and the textbook, so that the teacher can follow what is being taught.
40. Organising materials
Where there is only one subject, a dedicated exercise book is recommended.
Where there are several subjects, a folder with dividers and punched pockets may be used.
Where the organisation of the space allows, 1st and 2nd Cycle students may have somewhere to keep their materials.
Materials should be clearly labelled and kept in order.
41. Responsible use of paper and resources
Oficina de Pitágoras promotes responsible and sustainable use of materials.
Everyone should try to:
• use paper and exercise books fully;
• reuse usable paper;
• print only when necessary;
• avoid waste;
• use durable materials;
• keep documents in order;
• protect the environment through conscious use of resources.
42. Occasionally forgetting materials
If a student occasionally forgets something, Oficina de Pitágoras may provide, where available, a sheet of paper, a pencil, a pen or another basic item.
This is intended for occasional situations.
43. Repeatedly missing materials
Where missing materials become a recurring matter, the guardian may be notified.
If individual materials continue to be needed repeatedly, they may be provided for the corresponding amount.
These may include:
• pencils;
• pens;
• erasers;
• exercise books;
• paper;
• folders;
• punched pockets;
• other school materials.
The amount may be recorded in the guardian area and included in the next adjustment.
This is intended to encourage responsibility, independence, organisation and environmental awareness.
IX. Monthly fees, amounts and payments
44. Amounts
All amounts associated with the services are stated as net amounts.
45. Payment deadline
Amounts must be paid by the dates given in the Official Payment Plan and Calendar.
Deadlines may vary according to the service and the characteristics of the period.
46. Full monthly fee
Where three or more full weeks of lessons are scheduled, the full monthly fee applies.
Even where the month contains only three weeks of lessons in the calendar, the full monthly fee applies.
47. Partial monthly fee
Where two full weeks of lessons are scheduled, the partial monthly fee applies.
The partial monthly fee has its own amount.
48. One full week
Where only one full week of the service is scheduled, 50% of the partial monthly fee applies.
This rule applies at any point in the school year.
For it to apply, it must be possible to hold all the sessions that make up a normal week of the service.
49. Less than one full week
Where a full week of the service cannot be completed, the amount for one-off lessons applies.
The amount depends on the service and on whether it is one-to-one or in a group.
50. Minimum guaranteed with the full monthly fee
Where the full monthly fee applies, Oficina de Pitágoras organises the service around a minimum of three weeks of lessons.
Where a public holiday prevents a session needed to reach that minimum, a make-up lesson will be sought.
51. Sibling discount
There is a 5% sibling discount whenever at least two siblings are enrolled and attending at the same time.
The discount applies to all the siblings concerned.
It applies to all services and amounts, including:
• the full monthly fee;
• the partial monthly fee;
• 50% of the partial monthly fee;
• one-off lessons;
• extra lessons;
• intensive preparation courses;
• one-to-one services;
• group services;
• other services.
51.1. No stacking
Discounts do not stack.
Where the sibling discount applies, no other discount applies at the same time.
51.2. When the discount ends
Where at least two siblings are no longer attending at the same time, the remaining student stops receiving the discount on subsequent amounts.
52. Specific rule for June
For students whose calendar includes June, any intention not to attend in June, or to change the plan for June, must be notified by 30 April.
This rule applies whether June corresponds to:
• the full monthly fee;
• the partial monthly fee;
• 50% of the partial monthly fee;
• another arrangement.
52.1. Where no notice is given
If no change is notified by 30 April, attendance in June is taken to stand.
The June amount will be charged automatically.
Later notice does not automatically change that amount.
53. Non-payment
Where an amount is not paid within the period set, settlement will be requested.
If the situation continues, the following may be considered:
• suspension of the service;
• the place no longer being held;
• ending the tuition, in prolonged or repeated cases.
54. Official Payment Plan and Calendar
Oficina de Pitágoras may provide an Official Payment Plan and Calendar for the individual service.
It may include:
• periods;
• dates;
• monthly fees;
• amounts;
• partial amounts;
• payment deadlines;
• breaks;
• specific conditions.
Whenever the service changes, a new plan may be issued.
55. Forecast documents
A forecast of amounts may be provided.
It reflects the service as it stands on the date of issue.
Whenever the service changes, a new forecast may be issued.
X. Absences, make-up lessons and extra lessons
56. Student absences
Absences should be notified wherever possible.
An absence does not automatically give rise to:
• a reduction in the amount;
• a refund;
• a make-up lesson.
57. Illness or exceptional situations
Prolonged illness, an accident, hospitalisation or other exceptional situations may be considered individually.
Solutions suited to the circumstances may be considered where possible.
58. Teacher absence
Where a lesson cannot go ahead for a reason connected with the teacher or with the organisation of Oficina de Pitágoras, the following may be considered:
• cover;
• a make-up lesson;
• rescheduling;
• another suitable solution.
59. Make-up lessons
Make-up lessons depend on:
• the availability of teachers;
• timetables;
• the groups running;
• the organisation of the service.
A make-up lesson that is confirmed and not attended may be treated as used.
Make-up lessons may take place at another time or in another group, as set out in these Rules.
60. Extra lessons
Students may request extra lessons beyond their regular plan.
Requests should preferably be made 48 hours in advance.
In exceptional situations, requests made 24 hours in advance may be considered.
Availability is not guaranteed.
A lesson is only booked once confirmed by the management.
60.1. Requesting
The request must be made by the guardian or by an adult student, by WhatsApp or by telephone to +351 926 125 158.
Extra lessons cannot be arranged directly with the teacher.
60.2. Confirmation
Once confirmed, the following are reserved:
• the teacher;
• the time;
• the space;
• preparation;
• the resources needed.
60.3. Cancellation by the student
A confirmed extra lesson cannot be cancelled on the day itself without the full amount being due.
Absence or non-attendance likewise means the full amount is charged.
60.4. Cancellation by Oficina de Pitágoras
If the lesson cannot go ahead for a reason connected with Oficina de Pitágoras or the teacher, rescheduling or another solution will be sought.
60.5. Payment
Extra lessons carry an additional amount.
It will be recorded in the guardian area and may be included in the following month's adjustment.
The sibling discount applies to extra lessons as well.
XI. Presence on the premises, arrival and departure
61. Period of supervision
Supervision covers the time actually scheduled for the student and their presence inside the premises.
Arriving significantly early, or staying on after the last lesson, is not automatically an additional supervision service.
62. Outside the premises
The areas outside Oficina de Pitágoras, including the area immediately in front of the entrance, are public spaces used by all sorts of people.
They are not under the permanent watch of teachers or other members of the team.
When a student is outside, they are not under the direct supervision of Oficina de Pitágoras.
Guardians should try to ensure that students arrive close to the scheduled time and come inside at the right moment.
A student simply being at the door does not mean they are under the supervision of Oficina de Pitágoras.
63. Early arrival or late collection
Where, exceptionally, a student needs to arrive significantly early or stay for a time after the lesson, the guardian should notify this in advance wherever possible.
64. Leaving between lessons
A student under 18 may only leave on their own during a break with the prior authorisation of their guardian.
That authorisation may be:
• permanent;
• temporary;
• for a single occasion.
While the student is outside, they are outside the direct supervision of Oficina de Pitágoras.
The choice of route, of shops, of purchases and of means of payment falls within the independence granted by the guardian.
The student must return in time.
Lateness does not extend the lesson, give rise to a make-up lesson, or change the amount due.
65. Leaving during a lesson
During a lesson, students should remain in the space where the activity is taking place, except where authorised or in an exceptional situation.
Leaving early does not give rise to:
• a reduction in the amount;
• a refund;
• an automatic make-up lesson.
XII. Behaviour and use of the premises
66. Students' duties
Students should:
• respect their teachers;
• respect the staff;
• respect their fellow students;
• keep to the times set;
• use the spaces properly;
• look after the materials;
• behave appropriately;
• respect the work of the other classes.
67. Incompatible behaviour
There should be no behaviour that disrupts:
• the lesson itself;
• the other classes;
• teachers;
• fellow students;
• safety;
• wellbeing;
• the learning environment.
This includes:
• repeated disruption;
• physical aggression;
• insults;
• threats;
• intimidation;
• discrimination;
• repeated refusal to follow instructions;
• deliberate damage;
• behaviour incompatible with the running of the centre.
Wherever possible, this will be discussed with the guardian.
Where the behaviour is serious or significantly disrupts the running of the centre, the student may be asked to leave the session.
In persistent or repeated situations, or where the behaviour is incompatible with continuing, attendance at the Multidisciplinary Tutoring Centre of Oficina de Pitágoras may be ended.
68. Use of the premises and of power sockets
The premises, furniture and equipment should be used responsibly.
Power sockets are primarily for equipment needed in lessons, namely:
• computers;
• tablets;
• calculators;
• teaching equipment.
They should not be used routinely to charge personal or recreational devices unrelated to the lesson, such as mobile phones or handheld consoles.
69. Food
Students may bring a snack.
Eating during a lesson is at the teacher's discretion.
Students should avoid food that:
• has a strong smell;
• is too noisy;
• makes a mess;
• disrupts the lesson.
70. Personal belongings
Students should look after their own belongings.
These include:
• mobile phones;
• computers;
• tablets;
• consoles;
• chargers;
• money;
• school materials;
• other property.
Oficina de Pitágoras will try to help recover items left behind wherever possible, but safekeeping of these belongings is not part of the service.
XIII. Health and safety
71. Emergency contacts
The contact details provided must be kept up to date.
Where necessary, the guardian, an alternative contact or the appropriate emergency services may be contacted.
72. Relevant health information
Guardians must pass on information essential to the student's safe participation, such as:
• serious allergies;
• significant limitations;
• conditions requiring an immediate response;
• other relevant information.
73. Administering medication
Administering medication is not, as a rule, part of the services of the Multidisciplinary Tutoring Centre.
Exceptional situations must be notified and considered in advance.
XIV. Privacy and communications
74. Photographs, image, voice and video
Authorisation for photographs, image, voice or video is separate from enrolment.
It will be requested separately.
Refusing it does not prevent attendance.
75. Data protection
Personal data is processed in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Data Protection Policy of Oficina de Pitágoras.
76. Promotional communications
Authorisation for promotional communications is optional and separate from enrolment.
77. Keeping information up to date
Guardians should notify changes to:
• telephone;
• e-mail;
• address;
• the guardian;
• the school timetable;
• the school attended;
• other relevant information.
XV. Final provisions
78. Updates to these Rules
These Rules may be updated where necessary because of:
• changes to the services;
• internal reorganisation;
• new procedures;
• changes in technology;
• the need for clarification;
• changes in how the centre runs.
Relevant changes will be communicated through the usual channels.
79. Questions, suggestions and resolving matters
Questions, difficulties or suggestions may be raised with the management of Oficina de Pitágoras.
Oficina de Pitágoras favours a relationship based on:
• dialogue;
• clarity;
• respect;
• good sense;
• responsibility;
• mutual commitment;
• seeking solutions suited to the circumstances.
